Sasna Tsrer

Sasna Tsrer (The Daredevils of Sassoun) is the Armenian national folk epic representing the spirit of the Armenian people in their continuous struggle for freedom from invasion and oppression by foreign forces.
David is the bravest hero and the most popular character in the epic. That is why the epic is also known as David of Sassoun. David encompasses the main values of the Armenian people: courage, independence, honesty, and kindness.
Sasuntsi Davit loved freedom and wouldn’t obey evil rulers. Davit couldn’t stand seeing his people oppressed by the tyrant Melik, so he decided to liberate them.
Sasuntsi David is a noble character. A famous line from the epic describes his personality – “Whoever is awake, stand up, do not say that David came like a thief and left like a thief.” David didn’t attack the sleeping enemy, but he woke him up, fought on equal terms, defeated the tyrant Sultan Melik, and liberated his homeland Sassoun and his people.
David was the original Armenian superhero.  He had special powers, and he inherited the Fire Sword.  He also had a magic horse Kurkik Jalali that could speak and fly to the sun!
